Stress gets to everyone!

Possibly…stress has become a deadly & a universal problem.

Stress today affects all ages & walks of life. Till recently, stress was something associated with only adults. But today? Which child is not under stress? From meeting the school schedules to getting through exams, from listening to parents & teachers to deciding a career, from getting along with classmates & friends to looking good, everything is stress-laden.

And, what about the adults? There is the stress of the children growing up, running parallel with the stress of managing careers, businesses & homes, meeting the various requirements of money & finance and even, in many cases, stress between the spouses themselves!

Stress is omnipresent!!

Stress is now understood as a problem caused from external sources like diet, lifestyle, pollution, social habits, crazy schedules, stressful situations, etc. It can also be caused by Tiredness & Fatigue, internal, mental inputs like emotional responses to negative situations. We all understand the effects of stress.

Does stress act on us and make us age faster?

Research now establishes that stress generates free radicals & an excess of these result in the real stress – called Oxidative stress, which happens at the cellular level inside the body.

The human body is a biochemical masterpiece. All bodily functions & activities are performed by chains of chemical reactions, done through millions of chemical pathways. Stress results in the disruption of several of these reactions & pathways. For example, the secretion of hormones, digestion, control of sugar, sleep, and even metabolism itself, gets affected

So, Oxidative stress is the stress caused on the cells inside the body by free radicals. They systematically erode the cell functions & the cells die earlier than they are supposed to, accelerating the ageing process. Oxidative stress is a condition which is characterized by the excessive collection of a series of free radicals, termed as Reactive Oxygen Species, which cause extensive damage to the cell and it basic structure, the DNA.

How do we handle this stress – can it be avoided? Yes, latest scientific research may have come up with  solutions…
